Civics Education

Legal Gateway is committed to expanding access to justice through initiatives that connect students with the federal judiciary, deepen their understanding of constitutional principles, and encourage meaningful participation in civic life.

Civics Contest

Sponsored by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, the annual Civics Contest invites high school students to explore important constitutional issues through essays and videos.

Legal Gateway’s founder has served as a volunteer co-chair of the District’s contest for nearly a decade, helping drive significant growth in student participation and recognition at the circuit level.

Building on this success, Legal Gateway seeks to support continued growth through expanded student and educational outreach, educational partnerships, and additional resources.

Summer Judicial Externship Program

Legal Gateway supports the Western District of Washington’s Summer Judicial Externship Program. Law students, who bring a wide range of perspectives to the legal profession, are given the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the federal courts while working alongside federal judges and their chambers.

The program offers meaningful exposure to federal practice, legal research and writing, and the work of the judiciary. Law students interested in participating can learn more about the program, eligibility, application process, and important dates in the current program flyer.
